Practical ideas you can use
Start with the audience, make the message clear and choose a format that helps rather than distracts.
Six useful starting points
Make the next presentation clearer
The slides are not the message – you are
Plan what the audience needs from you before opening PowerPoint. Slides should illustrate, reveal or reinforce an idea, not compete with the person explaining it.
Audience, Message and You
Write down who the audience is, the one idea they must retain and how your delivery will help them trust it. Use those answers to remove material that does not serve the moment.
Write a meaningful slide title
Replace a topic label such as ‘Results’ with the point the audience should understand. A useful title advances the argument and makes the slide easier to navigate.
Know when to use a whiteboard
Choose a whiteboard when questions, progressive explanation and shared thinking matter more than polished visual consistency. Plan the finished picture before drawing the first line.
Present to the camera
Raise the camera to eye level, look into the lens for important statements, frame deliberate gestures and use more vocal energy than a normal desk conversation.
Plan before you press Record
Define the audience, objective, scenario, story and next action before recording a technical demonstration. A clear talk track saves more time than an elaborate edit.
A growing library
What we are developing
Future downloadable resources will include presentation planning, audience and message, rehearsal, online setup, technical video and whiteboard checklists.
Every public download will be rebuilt in the current elucidation uk design system. Internal and client-branded training material will not be published unchanged.
